TOP MALE ACTING:
Personally, I didn’t find 2016 as one of the good years for Male Acting performances. Keeping apart the ageless, situationless and timeless legend Sir Amitabh Bachchan, who is bound to excel and always amazes in whatever he does now. Irrfan Khan performed brilliantly to single-handedly lift the otherwise weakly made Madaari. The dedication towards a particular role was reflected again in Aamir Khan’s performance in Dangal. His body language was near perfect throughout the timeline of the character. Akshay Kumar marvelously underplayed the character in Airlift that happened to be a great fit for the script.
Here are the TOP 5 Male Actors of 2016:
1. Amitabh Bachchan, Te3n
2. Irrfan Khan, Madaari
3. Aamir Khan, Dangal
4. Akshay Kumar, Airlift
5. Shahid Kapoor, Udta Punjab / Diljit Dosanjh, Udta Punjab
My Shoutout will go firstly to Prabhudeva for Tutak Tutak Tutiya. That was a unique role for an inexperienced actor which was portrayed amazingly. Then Piyush Mishra (Happy Bhag Jaegi), Shah Rukh Khan (Dear Zindagi), Tahir Raj Bhasin (Force 2), Rajkummar Rao (Aligarh), Manoj Bajpayee (Budhia Singh, Aligarh), Prakash Jha (Jai Gangajal), Rishi Kapoor (Kapoor and Sons), Madhavan (Saala Khadoos), Naseeruddin Shah (Waiting) and Amitabh Bachchan (Pink).
TOP FEMALE ACTING:
Over the years, female lead acting performances have started to dominate the male counterparts. It was even better this year where the leading ladies rose amazingly to make this a memorable year for themselves. Alia Bhatt has been edging towards the top notch slot for a long time now and the wait is certainly over now. Her performance in Udta Punjab deeply boggled everyone. Swara Bhaskar with her fine performance managed to successfully enter the dominant ladies’ group of the industry. Zaira Wasim as Young Geeta was the biggest reason for Dangal’s success. Her screen presence and commitment at this age are hard to believe and digest. Surveen Chawla took advantage of a good role in Parched and has thrown a message that she should be considered as a choice for character roles. Taapsee Pannu’s aura in Pink is one of the greatest and rarest things to experience in a movie.
Here are the TOP 5 Female Actors of 2016:
1. Alia Bhatt, Udta Punjab
2. Swara Bhaskar, Nil Battey Sannata
3. Zaira Wasim, Dangal
4. Surveen Chawla, Parched
5. Taapsee Pannu, Pink
I’ll definitely start my shoutout by acknowledging Anushka Sharma for her role in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Then Sonam Kapoor (Neerja), Aishwarya Rai (Sarbjit), Shabana Azmi (Neerja), Alia Bhatt (Dear Zindagi), Riya Shukla (Nil Battey Sannata) and Radhika Apte (Parched/Phobia).
